Promoting development and learning in early childhood is extremely important. “Learning starts in infancy, long before formal education, and continues throughout life.” All parts of the environment and everything or everyone a child comes in contact with will have an impact on their cognitive, emotional, and social development. (Promoting Development And Learning).
Discovery learning is an inquiry-based, constructivist learning theory that takes place in problem solving situations where the learner draws on his or her own past experience and existing knowledge to discover facts and relationships and new truths to be learned. Students interact with the world by exploring and manipulating objects, wrestling with questions and controversies, or performing experiments. As a result, students may be more more likely to remember concepts and knowledge discovered on their own (in contrast to a transmissionist model). Models that are based upon discovery learning model include: guided discovery, problem-based learning, simulation-based learning, case-based learning, incidental learning, among others. (Bruner, Jerome Seymour)
Constructivist theory is a student-centered approach wherein students are free to select their own ideas and concepts about how to acquire and integrate with their learning. I firmly agree that learning is based on past experience for students should relate their learning to its starting point. It should be a child-centered approach in which the students have their choices to build ideas by their own. In this way they were able to suit their selves and make it as an interest.
